Blake Gall, CFA

Blake Gall is the developer for Patterns & Prospects, as well as the founder and president of Micro++ Investment Management.

Prior to 2011, Blake was the Vice Chairman – Quantitative Equities for OFI Institutional Asset Management, the institutional investment arm of OppenheimerFunds. At OFII he oversaw research and product development and was also actively involved in meeting with clients, consultants, and prospects.

OppenheimerFunds established its institutional business in 1999, with the purchase of Trinity Investment Management, where Blake was an owner, CEO, and Chief Investment Officer. Trinity managed quantitatively driven portfolios for clients around the world, including major corporations, governments, endowments, and foundations. The accounts ranged in size from under $10 million to over $1 billion.

Before joining Trinity in Pennsylvania in 1985, Blake was Director of Quantitative Research at Prudential Securities in New York. There he developed the first multi-factor quantitative model on Wall Street, introduced the Earnings Surprise model, and started an internet-like, online system for research and sharing ideas. Earlier he was a small-cap equity analyst at E.F. Hutton, and an A.S.E. and apparel analyst at Standard & Poor’s, where he started in 1974.

Blake holds a BSE in Engineering from Princeton University, did his graduate work in macro-economics, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. He has been active in the CFA program on the Candidate Curriculum Committee and the Council of Examiners (writing questions for the Level III exam). He has also served on the editorial board of the Journal of Pension Plan Investing.

Besides his interests in his family – happily married for over 50 years, with two grown (and married!) daughters – Blake enjoys most sports, but especially tennis, golf, softball, squash, biking, and skiing. He also loves traveling, cooking (and eating), and reading (especially audio books while traveling in a car).

Among his community activities are volunteer work for the Penn State Endowment, Centre County Community Foundation, Mt. Nittany Medical Center, Bob Perks Cancer Assistance Fund, Mt. Nittany Conservancy, United Way, Central PA Festival of the Arts, PA Special Olympics, and Centre Safe. He and his wife, Linda, are enthusiastic supporters of Penn State University (as well as their alma mater).
